Slow stay + slow hosting

An authentic slow stay requires considered slow hosting. We have geared our sharing of Swansong to be low-key and low-impact. Our bookings are open for nine months of the year, from September to May, when there is abundant sunlight to power our off-grid pad.

Direct bookings from this website link to a local platform run by our host, Emily, at Younique Stays.

  • A one-bedroom, two-pavilion cabin with an environmental bent – designed to coax you outdoors.

The landscaped surrounds bring nature close in. Pademelons, superb fairy wrens and heath dragons inhabit the bush garden, while sea eagles fly overhead and swans coo on the bay below.

The building is oriented east, to salute the sun each morning. Bask in early rays from bed or outside on the deck with a morning brew.

The living pavilion is open plan with wall-to-wall windows so you never lose sight of the view. The kitchen is equipped to create memorable meals; cook inside or out on the campfire. Watch the shifting moods of Georges Bay from the sofa or the window seat, and if you land a rainy afternoon, there are books, games and a blue-tooth speaker to keep you occupied.

Across the deck in the sleeping pavilion is a queen-size bed plumped-up with quality flax / hemp linen sheets and bed covers. Store your clothing in individual wardrobes. There is a generous-sized window seat from which to gaze out over the bay. The ensuite is serene and green with a view through the shower into the bush.

Swansong has all the essentials without the excess.

  • “A stunning space, aesthetically pleasing in every way with all the comforts of home. We appreciated the wonderful craftsmanship throughout the rooms. Beautifully executed wabi sabi design and decor. The bed is incredibly comfortable, wrapped in luxurious linens. We were inspired and at ease as soon as we arrived. One of the best airbnbs we’ve experienced! Thank you for sharing your special creation Sam and Lisa.”

  • “We enjoyed our stay at Swansong very much. It’s a rare achievement to create something that feels so simple and natural - the perfect combination of nature and nurture. The cabins sit quietly in the environment, their landscape blending seamlessly into the surrounding bush.

The comfort inside the pavilions is luxurious, thoughtful and calming. You can be sitting in a window seat enjoying the view to the bay and beyond, or beside the campfire under the stars. Plus there’s the added bonus of an oyster farm at the end of the driveway.”

  • “Swansong is simply STUNNING. The space is outrageously comfortable, beautiful and peaceful, and every tiny detail has been so carefully considered. This is my absolute favourite accommodation of all time, and I'll definitely be back.”

  • “We had a lovely time at Swansong. Such beautiful spaces with everything you could wish for. Wonderful to wake up to the sunrise and a delight to come home to after a day out. We really enjoyed the sailing. Hopefully we will come and stay again sometime.”

  • “This was probably my favourite place of all time to stay. If I could choose a place to live this would be it! Nestled amongst the tall old gum trees, glorious expansive views of the bay, an artists eye for decor and design, access to binoculars and ukelele, a toasty wood fire and a sensory delight with Aesop products, linen sheets and local wine. The shower with a view is divine and waking every morning was a true delight. I did not want to leave! Thanks Matt for creating such a restorative place to stay.”

  • “What an amazing experience! We had the most relaxing and comfortable stay, looking over the water, listening to the kookaburra, watching the superb fairy wren bouncing in and out of the bush, and waking up to stunning sunrise. Well equipped kitchen and two spotless pavilions. Love the modern design and decor with an oriental twist. Highly recommended, and will comeback again.”

  • “Every element of Swansong has been thoughtfully curated, from the warm hues of the blankets and bed linen, to the selection of books and Tasmanian herbs. This off-grid accommodation feels luxurious but with a wabi sabi minimalist vibe. The delightful wood heater was all that we needed to keep the main pavilion warm and waking up to the sunrise over Moulting Bay is a real treat. Swansong has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, with lots of extras you don’t expect but are so nice to have when you realise you have forgotten a staple (olive oil!). Just when you think the East Coast of Tasmania can’t get any more spectacular the Bay of Fires steps it up with its lichen covered rocks, brilliant white beaches and mesmerising surf. For a coastal run or walk we recommend the 10km return trail from Skeleton Bay to Dora Point Road – only 10 minutes drive from Swansong.”

  • “We absolutely loved Swansong. Everything about it was perfect. The simplicity and minimalist style created such a sense of peace and serenity. The aspect meant we were able to fully enjoy the magnificent sunrises. And despite being so close to the towns (and happily just across the road from the best oysters we’ve ever had) it felt like we were alone in the bush. We hope to come again one day. Three nights was not enough!”

  • “The pavilions are well designed and appointed with beautiful views in a lovely location. The hosts gave great tips on places to visit in the area.

If you’re coming in Winter, be prepared to rug up in the sleeping pavilion as it gets cold with limited heating allowed in circumstances where the property is off the grid. There is a good wood burner in the living pavilion though.

We had a wonderful, restorative stay and would come again.”
